Portrait for “Wahrheitskämpfer”

Wahrheitskämpfer e.V. (freedom fighters) is a non-profit association, which building a gallery of portraits of imprisoned and killed journalists from all over the world. The project exists since 2015 and until this day, more than 800 journalists are represented in the gallery, which aims to be a memorial for the freedom of press.
The project was founded by Susanne Köhler, which Cuculum met 2024 at the Comicsalon in Erlangen (see the corresponding archive page). Immediately we agreed to contribute to the project, thus followed the making of a portrait of the murdered Pakistani journalist Maulana Siddique Mengal.

We highly encourage you to visit the projects website, to learn more about his and countless others journalists fate. With the escalation of the Gaza conflict, the project is sadly more newsworthy than ever.

The Wahrheitskämpfer project was featured in the taz newspaper on occasion of the World Press Freedom Day 2025, also displaying this portrait of Maulana Siddique Mengal.
